got this for a new dining room area rug, which ran a little smaller than 8 x 10, so I had to trim it a little; no biggee using heavy-duty scissors. the felt side (top) keeps the rug from slipping while the rubber side (bottom) keeps the pad from slipping on the hardwood floor. it does provide additional cushion as well as some thickness to the overall rug height, so be sure it's trimmed small enough to hide under the rug. a few weeks later, I purchased another area rug for the living room and asked the rug pad to be custom trimmed prior to shipment. the size was perfect upon receipt. a great value for a great product from a great seller!
